In my opinion Rovaniemi is awesome place to live and tourists to visit, since there are wide variety of activities that can be done, shopping possibilities are quite ok, and there are many restaurants from traditional Finnish food to Indian cuisine.
The hotel at its self is little worn down since it has operated over 20 years, but still one can feel the Lappish atmosphere there. Rooms are decorated in Lappish way, and they are warm and cozy rooms. Some of the rooms have Jacuzzi or even private sauna, and what would be better than coming back to hotel from exploring nature, fauna and culture and warm up your own private traditional Finnish sauna. Restaurant in the hotel offers Lappish dishes such as reindeer and blueberry pie, which every tourists should try on their visit to Finland.
Finnish Lapland is something I feel everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime and we at our hotel are there to make that unique experience even better. During the winter season from November to March we meet thousands of visitors from tens of different countries, and to manage to please everyone we need quite extensive knowledge of different cultures and good people skills. One of the hardest things is to understand different cultures and why our customers do things the way they do. Of course we learn from previous experiences but every season we get a new culture group as our guest and we have to adapt to their habits. No matter if it is a Japanese group where all the rooms have to have two separate beds and there cannot be king size beds in any of the rooms or when an Israelian group is fasting and they need to have separate breakfast room apart from our other guests, a prayer room, they cannot use electricity and they need have doors opened for them. When different cultures collide we, as customer servers have to find a solution for all of our guests’ requests.
Working in the reception is sometimes very challenging because it is not possible to please everyone and we do not have resources to complete all the wishes that is asked from us. One of the most important and giving aspects of our work is positive feedback. It is always nice to hear that we have done something well and that we have succeeded in our goals. Best way to get feedback is face to face but we get feedback through various channels, such as email and Tripadvisor. Sometimes we accommodate people even for months and it is wonderful to get to know them better and it is always sad when they go back home and we might never see each other again. Hospitality in Finnish Lapland and in Rovaniemi is unique and we try to bring that out as best as we can in every step we meet customers and make their trip as best as possible with memorable experiences!
