Two weeks ago we introduced you our mascot THE reindeer, a helpful and happy friend who helped you through the booking process on our web, on our chat and also in the mails we send you before and after you come.
Surprisingly THE reindeer did not have a name and, when we finally decided to adopt him and make him an official (and a very important) part of our team at Lapland Safaris, finding a proper name was our first task. What would be a better source of imaginary and Christmas-spirited names than our clients? Therefore we started a contest to name our new mascot.
We launched the contest in this blog and promoted it in our social media channels. In total we got more than 120 different names to choose from, and the decision wasn’t easy.
Choosing the name
Among all the names that you proposed, we selected eight. These are the names which we elected for the second round:
The name should be short and easy to pronounce. Saffi and Saffy would have a link to our brand; Lappy and Uula to Lapland; Reddy, Ralphy, Randolph and Ronnie to reindeer.
The three finalist
Saffy was also kind of linked to safety, which is extremely important for us, but then we checked in different dictionaries if it had some inconvenient meanings… which it certainly had. We liked Saffy, and we do think that our reindeer is kind of sexy… but maybe not in that sense 😀
Lappy was also among the last three choices, but it has a meaning related with a laptop. Actually sexy laptop. Yes, it is sexy… but not a laptop.
We are in Lapland, and reindeers are Lappish animals, so what could it better than a Lappish name: UULA.
The name was given by Linus Sheep in the publication of our main Facebook page, and he is the winning of our contest.
Congratulations, Linus! You got one safari of your choice free of charge for two persons!
Do you want to see all the names proposed for Uula? Have a look below.
Yesterday, when we chose Uula as a winning name, we informed our friends from Waka and they send us several proposals for the graphic name. In the end, we choose the one you see in the first image of this post.
Thank you everybody who participated in the contest. It was not easy to choose the final name with so many good proposals
