Rovaniemi to Open Christmas Season in Santa Claus Village

The Official Hometown of Santa Claus begins countdown to Christmas on Saturday

The Christmas season will officially be declared open in Santa Claus Village, only 9 km north from Rovaniemi (Finland) this Saturday at 4 pm. The festivities offer Santa Claus a brief break in the busy run-up to Christmas, and he and the crowd will be entertained with song and dance performances.

We’re expecting a joyous opening to the Christmas season. We’re hoping that both locals and foreign visitors show up in numbers to contribute to a fun and international get-together, says event producer Hannu Friman.

The first one thousand to arrive will be served free mulled wine and gingerbread cookies. The event goes on for around 30 minutes, after which a Christmas-themed disco takes over.
