In Lapland Safaris we’ve been thinking how to present our team to our guests before they actually come here to visit us in any of our destinations (Rovaniemi, Saariselkä, Luosto, Levi, Ylläs, etc.). And we thought that the best way would be to create a series of videos showing our people and their work. And afterwards we combine those videos with a written interview in this blog, Lapland The Magazine.
We are not going to be able to present you each of us, as we are quite many. During the high season there are more than 450 persons working in Lapland Safaris, so we’ll try to show you at least some of us. Allow me to start with myself
Name: Julián Amorrich
Position: Digital Marketing Manager
Q: Where are you from and how did you end up in Lapland?
A: I’m from Spain, but I came to study as an exchange student to Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences in 1999-2000 and got in love with the country. In 2001 I moved permanently from Madrid to Finland, where I have spent most of the time working in the travel industry.
Q: How long have you been working in Lapland Safaris?
A: I’ve been working in Lapland Safaris for 2,5 years now. Before that, I was working 9 years in Eräsetti Safaris, a company which was adquired by Lapland Safaris in 2012.
Q: Tell us something about your work, what have you done and what do you do…
A: In Eräsetti I was working as Sales Manager for Spain, Portugal and Poland. I was travelling and meeting tour operators and incentive houses, selling our production to them. In 2009 I combined my work there with some projects in Internet, and little by little I started moving to the online business. When I started in Lapland Safaris, I did it to develope the digital side of the company. There I take care of the usability of our site, the search engine optimization and the creation of content in different social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others.
In the past driving snowmobiles, husky- or reindeer-sleds or even rally cars on ice and snow with our guets were a bigger part of my work. I spend still some days outdoors working with some tour operators that I’ve been working with for more than 10 years now, like my Spanish friends from Travelkids. So I’m very happy when December comes and they take me out of the office for some days. Then I’m back to the forest and the activities, where I like to be and where I’m actually when I’m not working.
Q: From the production of Lapland Safaris, what is your favourite safari?
A: I love snowmobiling, and I’d say that my favourite activity is when I’m riding them. Maybe, the best experience I had was a long safari to the Arctic Ocean starting in Saariselkä, doing close to 400km in 3 days, driving in the forest, the fells and on the ice of frozen rivers and lakes. That was amazing! But I like them all…
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I like all kind of outdoor sports. I love running, and I run in winter or summer, no matter the weather. In summer I also do road cycling, mountain biking and downhill. Being in Lapland there are always good chances to enjoy outdoor activities at any time of the year.
