As a student, I find the balance between free time and studying important, so I thought to give some (not professional, but experienced) advice on where to go in the city centre and grab a pint after a rough day of travelling.
At first, a brief roundup of the bar culture in Rovaniemi. The bars open their doors in the early evening, but in Rovaniemi people go to bars only around (or even after) midnight as they are pre-drinking at someone’s place until then. The pubs, on the other hand, open earlier and close after midnight. But worry not, I can guarantee there are people everywhere! Not many, but a few.
Rovaniemi has a good variety of different places for everyone – pubs, clubs and sports bars for instance. Below I have gathered a list of the best places to go in my opinion – but there are a lot more to discover if you are really into it!
If you are looking for a place to go wild and rave, I would recommend Half Moon and Copper Mill. They are the best places to get in touch with younger generations and are often the places for students’ after parties.
Half Moon, “Häfä”, is located in the close proximity to the shopping centre Rinteenkulma. There is a dance floor and a separate room for karaoke. If there happens to be a band or an artist playing in Rovaniemi, they are probably playing the gig in Half Moon.

Copper Mill has two different floors; the night club upstairs and the lounge on the ground floor. The night club upstairs is spacious, so there is a lot of room to dance and rave. Downstairs the lounge has many big leather couches and TVs, which makes it a good place to take a breath after dancing. On Fridays and Saturdays, Copper Mill does not allow people under 20 to their premises, but on Sundays the age limit is 18.

If you are feeling fancy, one place I can recommend is definitely Café & Bar 21. During the day they serve good food (pasta, salads, salty and sweet waffles, cakes etc.) and beverages and in the evening they have nice cocktails, wines and other alcoholic beverages. The interior of the café is modern and it is decorated with Finnish design, so it looks very elegant. But be warned, the place is very popular even among the locals, so a table reservation is not exaggerated.

I personally prefer pubs over bars, because nowadays bars tend to be filled with sweaty people and the music is loud and there is not a chance to have a conversation in bars. One of my favourite places is Oluthuone, the atmosphere is very relaxed and the staff is polite and hospitable.

Open: Mon-Thu 11-02, Fri-Sat 10-03, Sun 12-02

Other place I can warmly recommend is Uitto Pub. They have a variety of board games and even a dartboard, good offers on drinks and a lot of tables and booths to have a good conversation with a friend – or why not with locals?

Kauppayhtiö, ”Kauppis”, is definitely a place worth visiting. Not only do they have delicious burgers but also a couple of arcade game machines! One might describe Kauppayhtiö as a hipster café/bar, but the atmosphere is amazing and the staff makes you feel like home. The food is produced as locally as possible. There is a stage for musicians downstairs and sometimes well-known artists have gigs in Kauppayhtiö. Definitely an exquisite experience!

If karaoke is your thing or you want to hear “live music”, head to Hulibumba or Roy Club. But be warned – Finns are pretty good at karaoke. Especially Hulibumba is known for its karaoke contestants and a broad variety of Finnish karaoke classics.

In Roy Club, “Roippari”, in addition to the karaoke stage, they have a club downstairs with dancing poles. So far I have not seen any (professional) dancers on them, but you might be lucky enough to see one or two – or you can give it a go!

We Finns are big fans of spectator sports (“penkkiurheilu”) and some of us gather to pubs/bars to watch the game and to grab a drink or two with our friends. If you are into this, I can recommend visiting Bull Bar & Grill, “Bulli”. In addition to games, they offer great food until the late night and board games. During the summer time the bar is closed on Mondays, but the party goes on from Tuesday until Sunday through the year.

In Rovaniemi we have only one Irish pub, Oliver’s Corner, “OC”. They also show the games on big screens and the interior is very Irish and sporty with sports teams’ scarfs and jerseys. OC is separated in two different floors; the ground floor is the pub and downstairs is the night club. The pub has the age limit of 20.
Address: Koskikatu 9, 96200 Rovaniemi
PUB: Sun-Tue 14-02, Wed-Fri 14-03, Sat 12-03
NIGHT CLUB: Wed-Sat 22-04

I hope you find this post even slightly useful or got at least some kind of a clue where to visit when having a night out in Rovaniemi. Have fun!
