Glass Igloos in Rovaniemi

Last week we got fantastic news from our friends Ville and Heidi Haavikko, the couple behind the Arctic SnowHotel near Lehtojärvi, in Rovaniemi. They informed us about their idea during last winter season, and we were very happy to know that someone was planning this kind of project in Rovaniemi.

Before, if you wanted to spend a night in a glass igloo, you had to travel either to Saariselkä or to Levi, which are very nice destinations too. But now, with these new glass igloos, Rovaniemi gets a new attraction which I’m sure it will be one of the top attractions of the destination. It will make Rovaniemi even a more complete place to visit. Just think: Arctic Circle, Santa Claus Village, winter and summer activities, Arktikum and Korundi Museums, SnowHotel and snow restaurants, only 1h30min from the Sampo icebreaker in Kemi… and now also comfortable Glass Igloos.

Northern lights from a glass igloo

Any more comfortable place to enjoy the northern lights?

Spend the night in a glass igloo on the Arctic Circle, and you’ll have an excellent chance of witnessing a beautiful display of the aurora borealis. Marvel at the waves of green, violet – and maybe even red if you’re lucky – through the glass roof, all from the comfort of a nice warm bed. No need to worry about frostbite!

Arctic Glass Igloos – 15 Igloos finally available on 1.12.2014!

The long-awaited glass igloos sit on the Arctic Circle, far enough from the city lights of Rovaniemi, Lapland. Although there is no way to guarantee an aurora sighting – since a clear sky, geomagnetic activity and a dash of luck are needed – the probabilities for a great show at the Arctic Glass Igloos are near optimal. And anyway, and as I always say, whatever the weather is on that night, just enjoy: when you are under the sky in Lapland, and especially if you are comfortably laying down on a bed, enjoy the night. You might admire a northern light dancing in the sky. But otherwise, the starry sky of Lapland will surprise you for sure. If it happens that on that night there is a big snow storm, it is also an experience to be under it, but warmly protected. Whatever the weather is, remember: enjoy your stay under the Lappish sky!

There is also a lot to enjoy besides the auroras!

In the same area you can find three restaurants serving delicious local treats, the Arctic SnowHotel; a hotel, chapel and a dining hall made entirely of ice and snow. Restaurant Lumikartano; a giant log house with a dining area, a fireplace room, traditional Finnish saunas as well as exotic snow saunas, an outdoor Jacuzzi and a hot tub as well as a lakeside Kota Restaurant – all within a stone throw from each other. You can also enjoy activities, such as snowshoe hiking, ice fishing or ice sculpting.

The Arctic Snow Hotel and the Arctic Glass Igloos are located 26 km from Rovaniemi centre and 10 more from Rovaniemi airport. You can have a look of the map below:
